Book Review + #Giveaway: A Lady on the Chase

Happy Monday!

I’m so excited about today’s release! A Lady on the Chase by Jessica Scarlett is the third book in the Wycliffe Family series. You don’t have to have read the other two books but I highly recommend that you do because they’re so great!

Grab a cup of tea (or coffee) and read along!

*FYI this is a clean historical romance.

About the Book

Her father promised her to one man.
She promised her heart to the second.
Until she meets the third.

Lady Alicia Kendall has it all: wealth, beauty, suitors–and a history of creating scandals. The only thing she doesn’t have is her best friend and man of her dreams, Henry Crawley. When Henry announces his plans to join the Regulars, her father’s adamant disapproval of him deepens and prompts a deal to be struck:

She has two weeks to secure Henry’s proposal, or she must give him up forever and marry a man of her father’s choosing.

Alicia agrees. But when one of her attempts goes awry, she gets a begrudging proposal from someone else entirely–Matthew Wycliffe. The most condescending man ever to walk the face of the earth, and her newly-discovered nemesis.

If only to avoid yet another scandal, Alicia accepts Mr. Wycliffe’s offer. After all, with the deal she struck with her father, she’ll never marry the man anyway. But as they endure dark castles, hot-tempered soldiers, and hidden secrets brought to light all in their quest for a proposal from Henry, Alicia notices something different about the insufferable, grumbling Matthew Wycliffe. And she wonders if perhaps the proposal she wants is the one she’s already received.

My Thoughts

pin me

Oh my stars!

I loved everything about this book. It pulled me out of a book slump and pulled me into a book hangover.

Jessica Scarlett has a way of pulling you into the story, giving engaging dialogue that makes you laugh out loud or clutch your heart with all the feels it evokes.

This was a all night read because I just couldn’t make myself stop until I read how the story would unfold. Matthew Wycliffe needs to be on everyone’s book boyfriend list and moved to the very top. He’s my favorite kind of hero: brooding, vulnerable, and willing to sacrifice for the happiness of his heroine.

Lady Alicia Kendall is fierce, stands up for what she believes in, and won’t accept anything less than true happiness. I loved watching her go for what she wanted and the shenanigans that followed.

I can’t wait for the next Jessica Scarlett release.

*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher but I loved the book so much I purchased my own copy. My review was not required nor influenced.

About the Author

Jessica Scarlett grew up in rural Utah, where lots of wide-open space served as a blank canvas for her rampant imagination. Along with being an author, she is a songwriter and a huge Broadway fan, so don’t be surprised if she hears the people sing or defies gravity on a regular basis.

Being mother to three crazy-eyed kiddos, she has been forced to develop a deep appreciation for humor—which is probably why she laughs so much at her own jokes. Though Jessica currently writes regency romance, she loves dashing heroes from all eras in history, and hopes to one day branch out.

  1. Wow, this sounds like a great read, and I really like it that her name is Alicia, just like mine. I love the book cover also. Have a great week and stay safe. I am not entering this giveaway as I don’t read ebooks at all, I am not tech savvy at all. 😦
