Book Review + #Giveaway: Autumn by the Sea

Happy Tuesday!

I’ve got another book review for you! This time I’ll be talking about Melissa Tagg’s newest release. Autumn by the Sea is the first book in the Muir Harbor series and one you’ll want to add to your TBR pile. Grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and chat with me!

About the Book

Abandoned as a toddler, Sydney Rose has spent years wondering who she really is, homesick for a life she’s never lived. When a private investigator crashes into her world, she finds herself heading to a tiny seaside town in Maine to meet a woman named Maggie, who’s searching for the granddaughter she lost decades ago.

If not for Maggie, Neil MacKean might still be back in Scotland, bereft and alone. Instead, he has a full life in Muir Harbor with an adopted family he loves and a blueberry farm to run. But the farm is struggling and strange occurrences have him concerned. Worse, Maggie’s once again caught up in the past, convinced she’s finally found her long-lost granddaughter.

Worried for Maggie, Neil is suspicious of the city girl who shows up at the farm. But there’s something about Sydney that tugs on him, drawing out secrets he never meant to share. While Neil grapples with the future of the farm, Sydney wrestles with a past that’s messier than ever. Together, they’re pulled into a mystery complete with a centuries-old legend, unexpected danger . . . and a love as deep and wild as the sea.

My Thoughts

Melissa Tagg has a way of drawing the reader in to a new place, a new adventure, and feel like you’re right along for the ride.

Autumn by the Sea is no exception. From its gripping opening, intrigue around who Sydney Rose is, and a place that looks the perfect picture of sanctuary in a seaside town in Maine, I was hooked.

I have always wanted to visit Maine so I was delighted to in the pages of this book. Add to it a group of people who give hints to future books in the series and I was there.

The meet cute was in traditional Melissa Tagg style and one I’d love to see on the big screen (I’d have popcorn and all the laughs). The romance was sweet and sigh inducing.

All in all, a fantastic start to a new series.

  1. I couldn’t tell you the title of the first, but I’ve read a number of her stories/series that are set in Iowa. Love the hometown setting she created there and look forward to reading this new setting too!

  2. I have read a lot of her books and am looking forward to this one. The first that I read by her was her novella “ONE ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS” in the Christmas Blessings anthology.

  3. I haven’t read any of Melissa Tagg’s books. But I’m interested in reading Autumn by the sea, to find out what happens with Sydney, Maggie and Neil. Are the girls truly related? Will sparks fly between Sydney and Neil?

  4. I keep thinking I’ve read her books, but my Goodreads profile shoes that I actually haven’t. I have several of hers on my want-to-read pile, but I guess I haven’t gotten to any yet. What intrigues me most about this book is your desire to see the meet-cute in a movie!

  5. I have yet to read any of Melissa’s books and this one intrigues me the most. Knowing that it takes place in Maine(where some of my extended family lives) makes me want to read it!
