Justice.

We are a people obsessed with it. And rightly so. Justice is to be part of our worship and thus part of our daily routine. To seek it. To do it. In Micah 6:8 (ESV) it says, He’s shown you what is good and what God requires of you—“To do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Or the Message version says, “Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love. And don’t take yourself too seriously—take God seriously.”

We pursue justice and love as an extension of our craving for God. Those are attributes only God can do perfectly. And if we’re honest, His love and justice aren’t always what we expect. David called for justice and God wiped out whole armies at his hand. Jonah called for justice, too. He thought Nineveh should be wiped out for their evil. Instead God used an example of a fig tree to tell him, “You don’t get to choose who I save.”

All of my novels address justice and love in their own forms. And justice isn’t always had how we’d most like it to be, just like in real life. In my newest release, Undefeated, Gia seeks justice for her murdered uncle and Xander seeks justice for being imprisoned for five years for something he didn’t do. But things don’t go as planned.

Along the way, these twenty-somethings make reckless mistakes thinking they are being wise. They’re still trying to work through their traumas and understand how to handle life, like most twenty-somethings. And, since this is a series, we get to see them grow and learn in books 2 and 3. I love that series of books allow more time for the characters to develop, don’t you? The tough part is the wait for that satisfying happily ever after!

Fun fact, Undefeated is my very first novel set in the USA. But not for long! Books 2 and 3 in the Against All Odds series will include Brazil where Gia’s maternal family is from. It’s always been Gia’s dream to go back to Brazil and use her architectural degree to make a difference there and Xander gets to go to the land where futbol (soccer) is king. Their hope is not to save the world and make themselves feel good, but to pay-it-forward and be a launch point for those who need it most in a world that is in desperate need of good.

I hope you enjoy joining me for this journey with Gia and Xander! You can find e-book copies of Undefeated on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iBooks, Kobo (Walmart), as well as on reading subscriptions sites like Scribd, Tolino, and Vivlio. Paperback fans can get a SIGNED COPY from me on my website. You can also request your library grab a copy so others can read it, too!

While my books are not Christian fiction (no spiritual story arc), they are clean reads and full of hope amidst a messy world. I was so excited to find a verse that I thought described my newest series, Against All Odds perfectly. Isaiah 1:17 (MSG), “Say no to wrong. Learn to do good. Work for justice. Help the down-and-out. Stand up for the homeless. Go to bat for the defenseless.”

About the Book

You’re innocent, but you just spent 5 years in jail. Would you be okay with never learning the truth?

Former soccer coach Xander Reinerman barely made it out of prison alive with scars and panic attacks as souvenirs. Five years ago, someone framed him for steroid sales and drugging his university soccer players. Now he’s out to show the world especially his family that he isn’t the monster the media made him out to be. Doing that in a new town with no money, no friends, and a felon record will take every weapon in his arsenal and what’s left of his shredded hope.

After Golden’s philanthropist Gia Carter offers shelter to the mysterious dark-haired stranger in town, her life begins to unravel at breakneck speed. Someone’s out to ruin her and they won’t stop until she’s headed back to her parents in a body bag.

Can Xander and Gia keep shambles of their lives together long enough to name their enemies, get justice, and learn to trust along the way?

  1. While our current world is tainted by disrespect, injustice, and hate, it was refreshing to read a clean novel in which virtue, kindness, and justice won the day! I’m looking forward to following Gia’s story in the books to come. All of CDGill’s books have been excellent reads on the current injustices of our lifetime. Enjoy them all!

  2. This book sounds like a great read , and sounds like it’s about getting justice for something they are not guilty of. I love the sound of this book. Thank you so much for sharing about it.
