Interview
Toni: Thank you so much for joining me. I’m so excited to talk about Her Hidden Hope. How did you take the idea and develop it into a story?
Jill: Thank you so much for having me! The idea for Evan and Addie’s story started back when Evan’s accident first appeared in book 3, The Bull Rider’s Secret. I wanted to develop what might have gone into causing the accident—perhaps Evan had been distracted by something? And that is how their story was first born.
Toni: That’s so fascinating! Are you a pantser or plotter?
Jill: A little of both. I definitely jot down chapter ideas and overall themes for the book, but then I’m usually surprised by what appears as I start writing.
Toni: Cool! What are your must-have tools when sitting down and writing?
Jill: I love some peace and quiet. It also helps me when the house is clean and picked up. I don’t know why, but my brain functions better that way. I drink water, sometimes with apple cider vinegar in it. (Weird, but it’s so good for you!) And then all I need is my laptop and some time to myself.
Toni: Since you said weird first, I’ll simply agree. 😉 Do you snack or drink while writing and if so, what?
Jill: If I want a healthy snack, it’s usually an apple or carrots. If I’m needing some junk food, I have a soft spot for chips. 😊
Toni: I like crunchy stuff when writing. So those would work for me. 🙂 When did you first know you wanted to be a writer?
Jill: I always, always, always wanted to write a book. I didn’t know what kind, but it was always a dream of mine. I loved reading as a child (and now), so I’m sure it came from that.
Toni: Definitely! Here’s to avid readers. Now let’s talk about the characters. What’s a normal day like for Addie Ricci?
Jill: Addie is a single mom who has taken on the impossible—re-opening her aunt and uncle’s B & B. Just the idea stresses me out! She chases her toddler Sawyer a lot, especially since he is an escape artist, and she’s working hard to make a new life for her and her son in Westbend.
Toni: I love the thought of a B&B! If your book was turned into a movie, who would you cast to play the characters?
Jill: Catherine Lowe and Justice Joslin, who were my inspiration for
Addie and Evan. And this little guy was my inspiration for Sawyer.
Toni: I love the pics! What would be the BIble verse that fits your story and why?
Jill: “Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God.” – I John 3:1
The book very much focuses on being children of God and on Evan’s relationship with his father.
Toni: I love that! Such a fantastic verse. Now, last but not least, what’s next in your writing?
Jill: I’m currently writing book 6 in the Colorado Grooms series. It’s due in May, and it will be the last in the Colorado Grooms series. I’m sad to see the series end, but I’m ready to dream about some new people and places. 😊
