Interview

Author Interview with Lillian Duncan

Happy Monday, Reader Friends!

Today Lillian Duncan has stopped by to talk about her latest release Trapped. Grab a cup of tea (or coffee) and join the conversation!

Interview

Toni: I’m so happy to have you here! Congrats on your release. 🙂 Before we talk about Trapped, tell us a little about yourself.

Lillian: I’m 64, happily married, and live in a small town in Ohio. I worked as a school speech pathologist for 34 years. Most of those years were in a large urban school district where I mostly worked with deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Interestingly enough, in 2012 I was diagnosed with bilateral brain tumors and am now completely deaf in one ear and a significant loss in the other.

Toni: I’m so sorry to hear that, but I thank you for sharing with us.
Let’s talk about Trapped.

Lillian: TRAPPED is a definite page turner. Angelina Matthews has it all—riches; fame; and beauty. Her life is perfect until the day she’s kidnapped and trapped in a basement with a mad man! But that’s just where the story starts. To get to the ending, you’ll go on a journey with more twists and turns than you can imagine.

Toni: Oh that sound good! What inspired you to write this particular book?

Lillian: Sometimes, I have an idea in mind when I start a book, but not in this case. I had one scene stuck in my brain. A woman walking through a dark parking lot and hearing footsteps, but every time she looked around no one is there.

It was up to me to discover who this woman was, why she was in the dark parking lot and why she could hear footsteps without anyone being around.

Toni: I love that! Do you put yourself in your books?

Lillian: Of course! It’s not a conscious thing but it happens. Sometimes it’s a snippet of a real-life event that happened to me or someone I know, but more often it shows up in other sneaky ways without me being aware of it—until I read it back. Then I have to decide whether to leave it in or take it out.

Toni: That makes perfect sense! Does your faith affect your writing? How?

Lillian: I hope it does! I like to think of myself as a parable writer. A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly message. Even my suspense stories have a heavenly message.

Toni: Love that example! What themes do you write about?

Lillian: Forgiveness seems to be a recurrent theme in many of my stories. But another theme seems to be emerging which is how crucial God’s Word is to all of our life journeys. I already mentioned I have brain tumors that have affected my health. But God’s Word gives me the wisdom and the strength I need to have peace and joy in spite of my struggles. I want other people to know that God doesn’t leave us alone in our battles, he’s given us His Word so that we can be victorious in spite of our circumstances.

Toni: His Word is so important. Before you leave, can you tell us what’s next from Lillian Duncan?

Lillian: I have another book that should release some time next year—JANE DOE. It’s filled with lots of action and a little romance—my favorite type of book to read or write! Along with that I’m also working on the third Puzzle House novel—SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN. I’m part of my publisher’s Christmas Extravaganza this year. She put’s out all sorts of stories with a Christmas theme for only 99 cents. My book is ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS JOHNNY ROCKER DEAD! It’s fun and suspenseful.

Toni: Sounds like you’ll keep us reading! Readers, do you have any questions/comments for Lillian?

About the Book

Angelina Matthews has everything—riches, fame, and beauty—until the day she’s kidnapped and trapped in a basement with a madman, wearing only a stained t-shirt. The dirt is his—the blood is hers. Tormented and tortured, she cries out to God.

Help comes in the form of Nate Goodman.

When their paths cross months later, Nate discovers Angelina is still trapped—not in a basement but in the memories she can’t escape. Nate knows all about being trapped, and getting un-trapped. As an ex-Chicago cop he’s had his own demons to wrestle, but his faith helped him to move forward. He reaches out to Angelina whose paranoid delusions have her trapped still.

But are they delusions after all?
