Have you ever needed help, but didn’t feel like you could share with anyone your need? Maybe you don’t feel like you can trust anyone with your problem. Perhaps you feel the person you entrust with your need will betray you at some point. Trust is not always easy.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Is it easier for you to trust God or others? How about trusting yourself? I struggle with knowing what decisions to make and what direction to go. I don’t trust myself to make the right choices. I fear making the wrong decision, and then having to reap the consequences. But God says to trust Him and don’t rely on yourself. We are to submit to His leading and He will make our paths straight. Sometimes that is easier said than done.
So how do you trust God? I’ve learned I must pray. I must daily give my day to God, trusting that God has lead me to make plans and if He wants to change them, then He can. God gives a special peace when we make decisions after prayer and reflection. I’m certainly not perfect at hearing Him correctly, but I am learning one step at a time.
What about trusting others? Trust is a theme in my book, Lord of Her Heart. Jocelyn has a secret she must keep and doesn’t trust Malcolm, who has proven his trustworthiness by repeatedly caring for her and saving her life. After learning of Jocelyn’s secret, Malcolm doesn’t trust Jocelyn. He’s been burned before by a deceptive woman, and struggles to accept Jocelyn’s confession. How does one learn to trust another? By showing love. Unconditional love, repeatedly expressed through action.
Showing love to others is the best way to learn to trust, as well as to help someone learn to trust you. Acting in another’s best interest, putting them first, not only helps them to accept and open up to you, it helps your heart open as well. Love is truly a powerful thing.
I pray that God will enable you to live a life of love and trust in Him and with the world around you. A beautiful life awaits you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 has been one of my memory scripture. It has been utilized so much the last several years. I am constantly being reminded that I do no have to understand everything. I only have to understand that I can trust God and He is in control.

Toni and Sherrinda, thanks for this post! Trust is such an important issue. Even after I’ve made a prayerful decision, I need to learn to relax and wait on the Lord.
I like the way trust developed in Lord of Her Heart….a great story all the way around!

Thank you for talking about Trust! I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately…it’s not easy to FULLY trust God, especially when you have hardships in your life, but I’ve learned that He is always there by my side, even if I don’t understand His plan… Trusting people is even harder for me 😦 we all have our own flaws…

Natalya, I totally get it. Trusting is so hard. I tend to be independent and want to do things by myself, so trusting others is difficult. Trusting God is difficult at times, but then waiting on Him is even harder for me. 😉 I love that you recognize His presence even in the hard times. Thanks so much for sharing.

It’s easier for me to trust God than people because like a lot of people I’ve been hurt and let down by them. That’s where forgiveness comes in though.
