Toni: Welcome, Katie! Thank you for joining me today.

Katie: Thanks so much for having me!

Toni: It’s my pleasure. 🙂 Before we talk about The Rejected Princess, let’s learn more about you. Are you a…
Sunrise or sunset watcher?

Katie: Sunrise, for sure!

Toni: I’m not sure I could wake up early enough to catch one. Flowers or plants keeper?

Katie: Flowers!

Toni: Agreed! Twitter or Instagram fan?

Katie: Instagram

Toni: So many people are awesome photographers. Romance or fantasy movie watcher?

Katie: Fantasy…but I like a good romance, too!

Toni: Tell us what steps you took to build the world Princess Roanna lives in.

Katie: Building the kingdoms of this story world actually took me a really long time. I couldn’t figure out what the world “looked” like. I read a lot of other novels, and brainstormed with a lot of other writers in order to pull together the understanding of what this world was.

Toni: It’s tough building a world from scratch. What is it about fantasy novels that capture your attention and give you the desire to create worlds?

Katie: I love the possibilities of what if. Every good story starts with what if, but in fantasy it gets applied to EVERYTHING!

Toni: Never thought of that! Who would you cast to play Princess Roanna and the prince of Dawson’s Edge?

Katie: Princess Roanna would be played by Adelaide Kane, the actress from Reign who plays Mary. The prince of Dawson’s Edge? Keep in mind he’s a bit older, and not the hero of the story…but I would say Rufus Sewell, who has played many roles, most recently a part in Victoria.

Toni: I’m already intrigued. What three ingredients are always present in your writing?

Katie: Hm, I would say a little bit of make believe, a little bit of mystery, and a little bit of romance.

Toni: Great elements! Lastly, can you tell us what you’re working on now?

Katie: Two projects! The first one is a sequel to The Rejected Princess (it’s about Prince Gregory and Merry Stern, who are part of book 1). The other project is a new story that I’m playing around with. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge 😊.
