Happy Tuesday, Reader Friends!
Thanks for joining me today. I have the pleasure of interviewing Alexis Goring today. She has stopped by to talk about her latest book, A Second Chance. Let’s get started!
About the Book
The Blurb: “Newly single food critic and newspaper reporter Traci Hightower is done with dating. After the man of her dreams left her at the altar on their wedding day and ran off with the woman she thought was her best friend, Traci resolves to focus on work and resigns herself to being a bachelorette for life.
Marc Roberts is a political reporter who is known as Mr. Nice Guy, the one who always finishes last. However, Marc’s compassion and kindness are of invaluable help to his newly widowed sister Gina Braxton who is trying to raise her two kids in the wake of her firefighter husband’s death.
Traci and Marc may be the perfect match, but they don’t know it yet. With God’s guidance and the help of Gina’s matchmaking skills honed by her career as a bestselling romance novelist, there is hope for a happily ever after for these two broken hearts.”
Interview
Toni: Thank you so much for joining me today! Tell us a little about A Second Chance.
Alexis: It’s a story about a man named Marc and a woman named Traci. They’re both entry-level journalists who are struggling to pay their bills while they pay their dues. When the story opens, the reader meets Traci and discovers that she’s dealing with the aftermath of her wedding that did not happen because her fiancé left her at the altar and ran off with her Maid of Honor. Now, Traci is deeper in debt and devastated in love so she writes off romance and focuses on work.
When the reader meets Marc, they see that he’s still reeling from another breakup. Marc’s girlfriends get bored because he’s so nice. They prefer a more dashing and daring man so without fail, put Marc back into their “friend zone.” At this point in the story, Marc is over it. Like Traci, he’s chosen to focus on work.
So when Traci and Marc meet and start interacting with each other, their guards are sky high because of their previous heartbreak. However, as they rely on God for guidance and the matchmaking skills of Marc’s sister’s Gina who is a bestselling romance novelist, Traci and Marc may learn how to heal from hurt and give love a second chance.
Toni: Sounds fantastic! What was your inspiration for A Second Chance?
Alexis: My own experience as an entry-level journalist and my interest in exploring matters of the heart inspired me to write this story.
Toni: Awesome. Did you have to do any research to write this? And if so, what was the one thing that surprised you?
Alexis: Yes. I interviewed an ER doctor to make sure that I got the medical terminologies, procedures, and details for the hospital scene right. Nothing surprised me.
Toni: So cool you could interview the doctor. Do you have any personal experiences that helped you in writing this novel? And if not, how did you ensure the characters would be authentic?
Alexis: My experience in the Journalism industry helped me to write this novel. It’s a wonderful industry but I totally know firsthand the frustration of trying to pay your bills while you’re forced to pay your dues.
Toni: Do you have any advice or any aspiring authors out there?
Alexis: Keep writing. Go to writers’ conferences. Buy books about writing and learn from what you read. Fully immerse yourself in your writing craft. Be open to growing as a writer through constructive criticism. Seek a mentor in the industry. Above all, pray to God about your desire to write. If He wants you to be a writer, He will make a way.
Toni: Amen! How can readers help support you in your writing journey?
Alexis: Readers can support me by buying my books, reading my books and writing honest reviews about what they’ve read on Amazon.com.
Toni: Before you go, can you tell us what’s next in your writing journey?
Alexis: Sure! I’m working on two standalone stories. One is about a fictional family-owned bakery in the heart of Northwest Washington, D.C. and it focuses on the characters who love it. The other is about a wedding photographer who’s never been in love until she meets the one man she cannot forget.
Toni: Can’t wait to read them! Happy writing!
