Thanks for stopping by to check out my Interview with Kimberly Rose Johnson. She’s here talking about her latest release, A Love Song for Kayla. Have you read it? If not, check out the details below!
About the Book
Ever since she was sixteen Kayla Russell has dreamed of her perfect man. She even went so far as to make a list of desired qualities. The list has proven to be a bust since no man is that perfect, at least until she meets Derek. But will his secrets come between them and destroy what could have been something wonderful?
When music superstar Derek Parker comes to small town Oregon to escape the paparazzi he goes incognito as a deliveryman. He wants to leave his old life behind, but it proves to be harder than he realized when his past finds him. Now the woman he has come to care for feels deceived and no longer wants anything do with him.

Interview
I thought it would be fun. 🙂 I remember as I was plotting the story thinking about a store clerk at the mall who was gushing over the UPS guy. Then another lady joined in. It got me to thinking along that line, but I needed him to be more exciting than a delivery guy, so I made him a music superstar.
Love how authors find their inspirations! Kayla has a list of attributes for her Mr. Right. What do you think the pitfalls are when we do this?
I think when we make a list without consulting the Lord we run the risk of cutting His will out of the equation.
So true! What is the message you hope readers will receive after reading, A Love Song for Kayla?
That following the Lord’s plan for you life is always the best idea. There are so many other things a person could take away from this story, but right at this moment, that is what comes to mind.
That’s a great message! Do you have a musical background or did you have to depend on research for the musical elements in the story?
Yes, I do have a musical background. Like Kayla, I competed in singing competitions when I was young and did well. I dreamed of making it big one day like Derek, but when I was young we didn’t have reality TV so it was more difficult to get “discovered.”
I have a minor in music—almost a major because I changed degrees my senior year. I also taught piano for eighteen years. I love music and try to stay up to date with that industry.
That is so awesome! The closest I came was playing the clarinet in the marching band. 🙂
If you could only save two books from a fire, which two would you choose?
I would save my Bible for sure and then The Princess by Lori Wick. That is my all time favorite fiction book.
I haven’t read that! I’ll have to check it out.
How has your relationship with the Lord, impacted your writing?
It has made a huge impact on my writing. Even if I’m not trying to insert a spiritual thread it ends up there. My relationship with the Lord is a huge part of who I am and it comes out in my writing.
And last, but not least, what’s next for you in your writing journey?
Thanks for asking. I have quite a bit going on. Designing Love the last book in my Sunriver Dreams series releases in April. That is my final contracted book with a traditional publishing house.
I have chosen to go indie, at least for now. I plan to write a sequel to A Love Song for Kayla and hope to release it sometime this summer. I also plan to release the remainder of the books I received my rights back on beginning in September. Finally, I have a new book I will release in October. It will be the first in a series that takes place in Seattle, Washington.
Wow, congrats! Can’t wait for you to come back and share these books.
Thanks so much for having me on your blog!
Anytime!
