An Interview with Naomi Miller

It’s Interview Day!! I’m excited to bring you some interviews with some awesome authors this month. Today, I’m interviewing Naomi Miller as we talk about her novella, A Blueberry Cupcake Mystery. I’m sure you’ve seen it on the Amazon #1 Best Seller list in spots #1 and 2.

Let’s get started!

1. Thanks for stopping by today, Ms. Miller. I’m sure readers are wondering what made you write Blueberry Cupcake Mystery?
Honestly, I never expected to write a cozy mystery. But the idea for it came one evening when I was praying. It stayed with me for days, until I realized that it wasn’t going to go away—and was something I needed to share with readers of Amish fiction.

It was also pretty clear that it wasn’t going to be a typical story . . . I didn’t want to show characters who were easily led astray by the world-or easily tempted by things in the world. Yes, it’s true that many young people want to drive cars, but most of the people I’ve met had no desire to do so. They were content with their lives-a feeling many of us cannot imagine.

2. What is the message you hope readers will receive after reading your story?
I want to show that people—all people—can get along with one another, if they have love for one another; that faith, family, friends, and community are still important parts of life, but are getting left behind as technology takes over so much of our lives. We need to cherish these things, or they’ll soon be lost.
I want readers to be inspired; I want readers to forget—just for a little while—the sadness, worry & doubt; to reach the end of my book feeling happy and content.

3. Is there another book coming from the Amish Sweet Shop? And if so, can you share that information?
Yes! Christmas Cookie Mystery is book two in the series—and is scheduled to be released on December 6, 2016. Katie will be returning, only to stumble into yet another mystery . . . and with the help of her family and friends, as well as Mrs. Simpkins and Mr. O’Neal, the mystery will be solved by Christmas!

4. You write Amish fiction, do you also read it? Care to give the readers a peek into your TBR pile?
Sure! Yes, I read Amish fiction, as well as other genres, but with very few exceptions, I choose Christian/inspirational clean reads. Right now, my TBR pile includes Like A Bee To Honey by Jennifer Beckstrand, A Tragic Consequence by JC Morrows, Fetching Sweetness by Dana Mentink, The Saddle Maker’s Son by Kelly Irvin, The Silent Songbird by Melanie Dickerson, and The Courtship Basket by Amy Clipston.

5. Last questions. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Yes, I do! If you enjoy writing, don’t stop . . . even if your manuscript gets turned down, don’t quit. Make plans to attend local workshops and writers conferences in your area. Learn as much as you can about the process and keep writing!

About the Book

The Blurb: Katie Chupp spends her days at The Sweet Shop, baking and taking care of customers . . . not exactly a profession where one expects to be thrown into the midst of mysteries and murder investigations.

But when the bakery is broken into, someone has to find the thief . . . someone has to solve the problem of where to do the baking, how to get the orders to customers – and what to do about the messy thief who is trying to ruin the town’s Independence Day celebration.
