My TBR Pile – 3/7/16

Happy Monday, Reader Friends! I hope the weekend treated you kindly. I’ve got some great reads on my list this week. Last week’s list gave me some great review material so be sure to check back for the reviews. And…please leave me a comment letting me know what you’ll be reading this week!

Melissa Tagg’s From the Start

Picture

I’ve been wanting to read this ever since I read the prequel novella, Three Little Words.

The Blurb: Kate Walker used to believe in true love and happily ever after. While her own love life may have left her brokenhearted, it hasn’t kept her from churning out made-for-TV romance movie screenplays…until a major career slump and a longing to do something meaningful send her running back to her hometown of Maple Valley.

Permanently sidelined by an injury, former NFL quarterback Colton Greene is temporarily hiding out in a friend’s hometown to avoid the media and the reminders of all he’s lost. Maple Valley seems like the perfect place to learn how to adjust to normal life. The only trouble is he’s never really done normal before.

While Kate plays things safe and Colton is all about big risks and grand gestures, they both get what it’s like to desperately need direction in life. An unexpected project gives them both a chance to jumpstart their new lives, but old wounds and new dreams are hard to ignore. Starting over wasn’t part of the plan, but could it be the best thing that’s ever happened to them?“

Elizabeth Maddrey’s A Dash of Daring

Picture

Finally, I get to read Book 3 in the Taste of Romance series. I loved the first two books and anything written by Elizabeth Maddrey.

The Blurb: God doesn’t always call us to do what’s easy.

Amy Harris is the after-school care coordinator and long-term sub at the same inner city high school she graduated from. She’s always avoided the complications of dating outside her multi-ethnic heritage. Until Zach got hired.

Zach Wilson took a teaching job in a D.C. public school as part of a student-loan forgiveness program. Nearing the end of his commitment, a possibility arises to move to a magnet school in the suburbs. But will leaving the city end things with Amy before they really have a chance to start?

As Zach and Amy work together on the school’s annual holiday program, they must each decide if they’ll dare to follow where God calls.

Book three is the Taste of Romance series, A Dash of Daring is a contemporary Christian romance designed to entertain, inspire, and encourage thought about Christian living in today’s world. ”

Kristen Heitzmann’s A Rush of Wings

Picture

I saw this was free on Kindle last week, so I downloaded it. (PS: you might want to see if it still is.) I haven’t read anything by Ms. Heitzmann since her novel, Secrets, so I’m looking forward to getting reacquainted with her writing.

The Blurb: When fragmented images and unfocused panic force Noelle St. Claire to flee her wealthy, sheltered life in New York, she gains sanctuary on a ranch in the Rocky Mountains. There Noelle finds solace in the breathtaking scenery she paints. But as the attentions of two brothers, Rick and Morgan Spencer, breach the wall she hides behind, the past she yearns to escape becomes a menacing threat from which she can no longer hide. Award-winning and bestselling author Kristen Heitzmann has skillfully created a story resonating with emotion and depicting a poignant spiritual journey.

Jean C. Gordon’s Love Undercover

Picture

Ms. Gordon will be re-releasing Love Undercover on eBook this month.

The Blurb: “A few too many messy divorce cases and custody battles have convinced Tina Cannon to change her specialty from family law to financial planning and move her young daughter out of the city to a place that has the small town values Tina grew up with. So the offer from her Uncle Jack to join his planning practice in Genesee, her hometown, couldn’t have come at a better time. Tina is in for a few surprises, though, not the least of which is her perplexingly uncooperative and devastatingly attractive first client Devon O’Neil.

Devon has ties to Genesee too. But they aren’t as pleasant as Tina’s. This is where his grandmother died nearly penniless, bilked out of her hard-earned nest egg by an unscrupulous financial planner–Uncle Jack. Devon, a private investigator, devises a plan to expose Jack by posing as a lottery winner looking for financial guidance. Tina, however, is upsetting his plan. She’s Jack’s niece and in business with him, so she must be a crook, too, right? So, why does he seem so intent on proving her innocent instead of guilty?

With Tina’s widowed father playing matchmaker in the background, she faces off with Devon in the securities fraud investigation that raises more than a few sparks and teaches them both that while appearances can be deceiving, love shines true.
