This collection houses Yankee Heart, Wounded Heart, and Restored Heart.
So I’m going to share my review for Yankee Heart.
Yankee Heart was a beautiful introduction to Ms. Davids’ writing style. Her use of scripture had me highlighting them as well as the pearls of wisdom spoken from the characters relating to the Word.
Yankee Heart tells he tale of Katherine Wallace, who has decided to accompany her friend to Ohio during the Civil War. A Southerner in the North? You can pretty much imagine the reception she receives. Yet she is welcomed by the most unlikely party…a Union soldier.
Daniel Kirby has returned home from the war, filled with heartache, yet he doesn’t begrudge anyone. Instead, he desires peace for all effected, whether from the North or South.
Sigh. This book had me from “Katherine Eliza Wallace looked around her with wide eyes as she stepped off the train.” Each sentence was just a stepping stone for me to walk the journey of romance. A northerner falling for a southerner? But the romance was just a tip of the spear.
Katherine battles with insecurities and self-worth. As I read about her I felt myself examining how I feel about myself. As Daniel wondered if he was walking in the Lord’s will, I admired how much he sought Him and His word. But even more than that, I admired how he obeyed.
Katherine and Daniel’s journey to find love and acceptance is one that points to our first love, our Heavenly Father. I really enjoyed it and I encourage you to pick up a Jennifer A. Davids’ novel.
Please visit Ms. Davids’ Website for more information on her novels.
*I plan on rating this collection a 4 on Goodreads, but I would rate Yankee Heart a 5.
