Sale for “A Life to Live”

September is National Sickle Cell Awareness month. For those of you who are unaware, sickle cell is a disease that affects the red blood cells. They are sickle (crescent) shape, which causes problems like spleen crisis, pain crisis, etc. Basically, any where the red blood cells get stuck and clogged up is where issues can develop.

My youngest son has a version of the disease (there are different abnormal hemoglobins which can create the disease). In the five years he’s been alive, he’s had to deal with pain crisis in his legs and a spleen crisis when he was one and a half. Currently, his spleen is enlarged and he’s being monitored and we are trying to keep the pain under control.

A lot of people are carriers of the disease. Some know it thanks to the testing they conduct at birth, others are uninformed. I tell you all this because as the picture notates, I’ll be donating my September royalties to Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. (SCDAA). My book will be on sale for 99 cents through September 5th. After that, it will have various prices eventually going back up to it’s normal price (the more royalties the better).

I would love it if you spread the word, or even if you find a sickle cell disease organization to support with a donation. For more information on SCDAA, please visit their website.
