An Update on “The Hesitant Heiress” by Dawn Crandall

So if you’ve been following my blog, you know I’ve reviewed “The Hesitant Heiress” before. If you haven’t been following, check out the original review here. Now the title says update because I have something fabulous to share. “The Hesitant Heiress” is available for pre-order in paperback!!!

I know all you book lovers out there just swooned. As much as I love my ereader (because what’s not to love when I can have over 400 books in one place?) having the actual book is just wonderful. Besides, you never know if an ereader will loose all your books (*shudder* terrible thought, sorry I wrote that).

Anyway, “The Hesitant Heiress” is available for pre-order and will come out September 8, 2015. Hooray, hooray, hooray!

Now for those of you who are brand new to my blog or have never heard of Dawn Crandall’s debut novel. Let me enlighten you. Grab a chair, a mug of coffee or tea, and let me tell you why you must read it. If you have heard of it, but haven’t read it…then pull up a seat and let me tell you why you must read it and push it to number one in your TBR pile.

The number one reason I love this book: GOOD WRITING! Okay, okay, I also love the romance floating throughout the book. The intrigue of…wait, I’m getting ahead of myself. *clear throat* Let me start again.

Set in 1890, “The Hesitant Heiress” is told from Amaryllis Brigham’s point of view (pov). You see Ms. Crandall writes in first person pov. I was a little hesitant (do you see what I did there?) when I first read that, because I’ve had bad experiences reading this pov. Nothing worse than reading ‘I’ repetitively. But I had nothing to fear. Ms. Crandall is an excellent first person pov writer. Excellent! (Should I say it again?) Excellent! 🙂

Amaryllis Bringham is a lovely woman with the burning desire to start a music academy. She plays the piano beautifully and without sheet music! (As a former clarinet player, I love this fact). Unfortunately, life throws her some curve balls to where she contemplates marriage in order to fulfill her dreams. Unlike most women, the idea is an unpleasant one. Enter Nathan Everstone.

Nathan Everstone is one of the heirs to the Everstone fortune, which makes him Boston’s most eligible bachelors. Not to mention his undeniable good looks. Even though he’s not real, I could picture him perfectly. (You should go here, to see Ms. Crandall’s pinterest inspiration board!) Yet this doesn’t make Amaryllis seek him out. Instead it seems to have her running in the opposite direction. Oh, the intrigue!!!

Dawn Crandall adds an interesting cast of characters, who will be featured in books two and three (blog to come in the future). Add in balls, outings, and secrets which come to light and you have a must-stay-up-late-until-the-last-page-is-read book. It’s no wonder she’s a 2015 ACFW Carol Award Finalist.
