Review: “The Hesitant Heiress” by Dawn Crandall

Have you heard of Dawn Crandall’s “The Hesitant Heiress?” No?! Then pull up a seat and let me tell you why you must read it. If you have heard of it, but haven’t read it…then pull up a seat and let me tell you why you must read it.

Okay, if you’ve followed by blog I’m sure you thought I only read romance books. But you’d be wrong. The common theme is…wait for it….are you ready?….GOOD WRITING! Sure I like romantic suspense, I like contemporary romance, but in all honesty I just like good writing and “The Hesitant Heiress” has it in spades.

Set in 1890, the story is about Amaryllis Brigham, a lovely woman with the desire to start a music academy. She plays the piano beautifully and without sheet music! Unfortunately, life throws her some curve balls to where she contemplates marriage in order to fulfill her dreams. Unlike most women, the idea is an unpleasant one. Enter Nathan Everstone.

Nathan Everstone is one of the heirs to the Everstone fortune, which makes him Boston’s most eligible bachelors. Not to mention his undeniable good lucks. Yet this doesn’t make Amaryllis seek him out. Instead it seems to have her running in the opposite direction. Oh, the intrigue!!!

Did I mention this story has good writing? Ms. Crandall writes in first person point of view (pov). I was a little hesitant (do you see what I did there?) when I first read that, because I’ve had bad experiences reading this pov. But I had nothing to fear. Ms. Crandall is an excellent 1st person pov writer. Excellent! (Should I say it again?) Excellent! 🙂

So hopefully, I’ve said enough to have you running to the bookstore. Oh wait, did I mention this is the 1st novel in the Everstone Chronicles? Meaning…yep you guessed it…there are more books in this series. To find out more, check out Dawn Crandall’s website. Happy Reading!
